Since our beginning in 1979, Alexandar has pioneered innovative training and techniques. We have refined a comprehensive 705-hour massage training program that provides you with a solid foundation by preparing you for the four main reasons individuals seek out massage: relaxation, pain management, rejuvenating spa treatments, and medical treatments. This 705-hour program covers a thorough curriculum of varied techniques including massage, triggerpoint, medical treatment, injury treatment, chronic long-term injury, and various spa treatments all designed to address a diverse population of clients.

Our first time NCBTMB exam pass rate is 20% higher then the national average and 8% higher then the Washington State average. Why Alexandar School of Natural Theraputics?
Phase One - 3 Months:  You will learn basic Anatomy and Massage Techniques and practice them on fellow students in a safe and supervised setting.

Phase Two - 5 Months: We will show you how to apply the basic Anatomy and Massage Techniques to illness and injuries that massage practitioners encounter ona daily basis. Of course, no program would be complete without thorough training in Hydrotherapy and Spa Treatment, which are used in many of the leading day spas, medical clinics, and private massage practices. This phase also includes the excitement of starting your internship, where you will be working alongside Licensed Massage Practitioners (LMP's) in our professional massage clinic & day spa. During internship you will begin to gain real-world experience by applying what you have learned in your classes to the general public in a safe, supervised, and professional setting.

Phase Three - 3 Months: You will learn how the business of massage works, whether you work for someone or build your own massage practice. Our curriculumcovers massage and medical records laws, as well as insurance billing, which are important facets of the massage business that every massage practitioner should know. During this phase you will also enhance your massage techniques by learning how to apply them to chronic long-term injuries, working with injuries that have deep emotional components, and you will have the opportunity to continue your internship program in the clinic

Anatomy & Kinesiology
The study of the principles of mechanics and anatomy in relation to human movement. In this class you will learn the basics of anatomy and the muscles that move the body as they apply to massage therapy. Special emphasis is placed on acquiring hands-on experience locating the structures and muscles discussed during class lecture time.
Swedish Massage I – Theory and Practice of Massage

Swedish Massage - A system of therapeutic massage and exercise for the muscles and joints, developed in Sweden in the 19th century. Also known as the classical form of massage, Swedish Massage is the foundation of a holistic massage education. In this class, you will learn how to give a professional Swedish Massage, proper communication with the client, anatomy, and postural awareness. You will also learn how to transform Swedish Massage skills into your own massage style unique to you. This class is dedicated to a hands-on learning experience of the various massage techniques and the development of your unique touch.
Hydrotherapy is the superficial application of heat and cold to the body for therapeutic purposes.

Hydrotherapy is a powerful treatment modality used in Sports Medicine, Spas, Naturopathic Clinics and many medical practices. In this class you will learn how to apply Hydrotherapy techniques to both small areas using hot packs, or ice to the whole body using cold water and full size steam room and sauna. Hydrotherapy is integrated into Swedish massage, Deep Tissue massage, and Body Spa Treatments.
Medical Documentation
Medical Documentation is the main form of communication between medical providers and others professionals involved in the care of a patient. In this class you will be introduced to the standard SOAP charting format for further use during the Internship program.
Internship Orientation
Internship Orientation is the Student Massage Practitioners introduction to the daily operations of the clinic and the Practitioner/Client/Teacher relationship as it is applied our Professional Massage Clinic. The student internship is supervised.
Ethics are a cornerstone in today’s massage practice and key to a safe professionalwork environment. At Alexandar School of Natural Therapeutics we subscribe to both the AMTA and NCBTMB Codes of Ethics and the NCBTMB Standards of Conduct. 
HIPAA Orientation
HIPAA are a set of laws created to protect the privacy of individually identifiable health information. During this class Student Massage Practitioners will learn how HIPAA is applied during the Internship Program.
Pathology for Massage Practitioners
Pathophysiology is the study of the functional changes that accompany a particular syndrome or disease.

In this class, you will learn when and how to apply your massage techniques when working with clients with illness or injuries.
Anatomy & Physiology
Anatomy is the study of the body and it’s structures. Physiology is the branch of biology that deals with the normal functions of living organisms and their parts. In this class, you will learn the basics of anatomy and the body systems as they apply to massage therapy. Special emphasis is placed on the effect of massage on the different body systems. 
Swedish Massage II – Treatment Modalities
In this class, you will learn to apply the classic Swedish Massage techniques to illness and injuries encountered by Massage Practitioners on a daily basis.
Pre-natal Massage
Studies show that pregnancy massage can reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pains, and improve labor outcomes and newborn health. In this class, you will learn how to modify and apply your massage techniques in support of your clients’ pregnancy.
Chair Massage
Massage for a client seated on a specially designed portable massage chair. Chair massage can be performed almost anywhere utilizing special techniques for working on fully clothed clients. Usually, the massage is focused on the back, neck, scalp and shoulders however, other body parts can be accessed. During this class you will learn to apply the techniques and treatment strategies to clients in this setting.
Spa Treatments & Aromatherapy
American Spas are unsurpassed in their level of pampering the mind and body. In this series of classes we seek to enhance wellness using massage, hydrotherapeutic modalities such as Steam Bath, Sauna, Swiss Shower, and incorporating natural products in treatments such as Salt Glow Body Polish, Seaweed, and Rhassoul Clay Wraps. These treatments are well-known to relax and detoxify the body. The addition of the Isis Back Treatment, and Aromatic Face Massage seek to enhance wellness by uplifting, energizing, balancing, and helping to maintain a healthy body. Our facility allows student to give and receive these life-enhancing treatments, which can be incorporated in any massage practice. With the addition of Aromatherapy, which utilizes essential oils (highly concentrated aromatic extracts from plant material), we feel our Spa Program is simply the best
Facial Massage
Learn to give a relaxing massage focused on the face, neck, shoulders, scalp, arms, and hands. The face is steamed with a personalized aromatherapy blend, and massaged with Alexandar’s own Secrets of Isis product line. This treatment leaves the face soft, your body relaxed and your spirits lifted. 
Body Wraps
Body wraps are highly sought out treatments in the spa world.  Learning to give a Deluxe Herbal Wrap and Seaweed Wrap is a wonderful and desirable skill to complement your massage therapy practice.  These both offer the client maximum relaxation while detoxing and moisturizing the body, beneficial for pain, soreness and fatigue.  Clients leave detoxified and feeling rosy, peaceful and rejuvenated.
Body Polish
Salt Glow is a therapeutic skin and body enhancing experience. Stress melts away as the skin is gently massaged using a blend of aromatic sea salts, mineral salts and essential oils to remove impurities, dead skin cells and stimulate circulation.
Aromatherapy is the use of natural, aromatic plant oils in the pursuit of emotional, physical and aesthetical well-being. The use of these oils in massage combines the senses of smell and touch to ease both physical and mental tension. This type of massage is based on the Swedish model using kneading, long smooth gliding strokes, and other techniques to loosen tense muuscles, reduce stress, and improve circulation and mobility. This treatment is ideal to soothe the body and mind..
During your internship, you will develop your individual massage skills by working on real clients in a supervised setting in our professional massage clinic.
American Heart Association                                                                                                                                                                                       
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers and First Aid/CPR Training. In this classroom-based course, healthcare professionals learn to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR to victims of all ages, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely, and effective manner.

HIV/BBP Awareness Training
In this class you will learn about HIV/AIDS methods of transmission, symptoms, and treatment options. Techniques for prevention and legal issues pertaining to HIV/AIDS are also identified. You will also review Bloodborne pathogens and associated terminology. It also discusses signs, symptoms, and treatments of the most commonly encountered bloodborne diseases, their methods of transmission, ways to prevent exposure to bloodborne pathogens, and beneficial
actions following any incidental exposure.
Triggerpoint Therapy & Myofascial Release
Triggerpoint therapies are designed to treat and remove pain, stress, and energy blocks in muscles and connective tissue, and to establish a working relationship between the body, mind, and spirit. Triggerpoint and myofascial release are especially effective for treating long-term chronic pain, pain relief, and pain control. You will learn these techniques from Alexandar director, Bill Thompson, one of the few people designated to teach Zen Triggerpoint by the founder “Dub” Leigh.

Fundamentals of Oriental Medicine
This is an introductory course in the philosophical and experiential beginnings of Oriental medicine. We will discuss: Yin/Yang theory, Zang-Fu organ theory, Meridian theory, Tuina (Chinese bodywork), Qi Gong (breathing and slow movement exercise), and five elemental approaches.

Practice Management
In this class you will plan for and learn about the day-to-day operations of a massage practice in several different settings. You will also learn about Ethics and Washington State Laws relating to the practice of massage.
During your internship, you will develop your individual massage skills by working on real clients in a supervised setting in our professional massage clinic.
